나의 그림은 일상의 크고 작은 사건에서 출발한다. 노을을 보거나, 친구들과 게임을 하거나, 길에서 발견한 작은 낙엽같은 것일 수도 있다. 그리는 과정에서 사건으로부터 멀어진 ‘시간’이 더해지며 풍경은 재구성되기도 한다. 그림을 다 그리고 나면 그림 전체 또는 부분들은 사포로 지운다. 나의 작업에서 중요한 과정이다. 사포로 인해 생기는 캔버스의 상처와 우연히 드러나는 이전 레이어의 색과 흔적들을 이어가며 그림을 마무리한다. 때로는 사포로 지워낸 흔적과 상처들을 빛처럼 그려넣기도 하는데 그렇게 그려 넣는 빛에는 어떤 미래의 바램까지 담게 되는 것 같다. 어디로 어떻게 흘러갈지 모르는 삶에 대한.

My paintings begin with small and large events from everyday life. It might be watching a sunset, playing a game with friends, or noticing a small fallen leaf on the street.

As I paint, the passage of time creates a distance from the original event, and the landscape may be reconstructed through that process.

Once a painting is finished, I sand away parts of the entire surface, or sometimes the whole painting. This is an important part of my process. I continue the painting by following the scars created by the sandpaper, along with the colors and traces of earlier layers that happen to emerge.

At times, I paint over the traces and scars left by the sanding as if they were light. It seems that the light I paint into these places comes to hold a certain wish for the future as well—a wish for a life whose direction and course I cannot know.
