미스터 텅 (Mr.Tongue)은 현재 서울에 거주하고 있는 뉴욕 스트릿 아티스트이다.자신의 작품 세계를 다양한 미술매체를 통해 표현하고 있으며 전 세계 각국에서 그의 작품을 만날 수 있다. 그의 그림들은 개인 기도문이 반영된 작품이며,거리에 펼쳐놓은 작품들 중 유명한 캐릭터로 구성된 작업들은 친근한 기억을 되살려 주고 있다. 미스터 텅 (Mr.Tongue)은 재료, 색상 또는 패턴 상관없이 예술 활동을 표현하고,자신의 시그니처인 혓바닥 (Tongue)을 창의적으로 활용하여 차별성 있는 작품을 나타낸다.
Mr.Tongue is a street artist from New York, currently based in Seoul, South Korea.He works with diverse mediums to express his art form and his works can be seen globally. Most of his paintings are intermixed with personal prayers, and the street artworks incorporate famous cartoon characters from across the globe to bring a sense of nostalgic comfort to the viewers. Mr.Tongue’s style is not limited to one type of distinct medium, color, or pattern, and he creatively incorporates the tongue in allof his artworks as his signature.
혓바닥은 사람뿐만 아니라 세상 많은 동물들에게도 없어서는 안되는 중요한 신체 부위이다.
혀를 통해 먹고, 소화하고, 소통하며 사랑을 나눈다. 그 외 혓바닥이 가진 많은 의미 중에서도 미스터 텅이 특별히 가치있게 여기는 것들이 있다. 첫째로, 미스터 텅은 혀를 통해 세상과 소통하려 한다. 하고 싶은 이야기들을 “혀”라는 디자인적 요소를 통해 시각적으로 전달한다. 둘째로, 미스터 텅은 혀를 통해 삶을 맛보려 한다. 다양한 경험, 관계, 깨달음 등을 삶에서 느낄 수 있는 다양한 맛이라고 보는 것이다. 셋째로, 신실한 크리스찬으로서의 미스터 텅은 방언을 통해 기도를 하진 않지만, 아트를 통해 시각적인 방식으로 본인만의 방언을 한다고 믿는다. (*성경에서 방언은 영문으로 “speak in tongue”으로 표현된다.)
The tongue, an essential part of all living beings, is able to help taste, digest, speak, and make love. From many meanings behind the iconic tongue, here are three main reasons why Mr.Tongue chose the tongue as his signature.First, the main purpose is to speak to the world using his tongues.Mr.Tongue hopes to convey deeper messages through the use of his signature tongues.Second, it is an effort to taste life through different experiences, relationships, and realizations.Lastly, in a spiritual context, speaking in tongue in Christianity means one has been gifted by God and though Mr.Tongue does not pray in tongue, he believes that he speaks in visual tongues to share his blessings.
